On a low-budget short film, most crew members wear multiple hats, so the Producer is likely to be a mix of Producer, Line Producer, and Executive Producer.
As an Executive Producer the key role is to secure funding, this is done in several ways; finance it themselves, in full or partially, or to seek out financing from other individuals or corporate investors,
During the production process of filmmaking, an EP is generally not involved or visits the set. However, that is up the individual. During the post production (editing) process, the EP is generally not involved, other than watching the first cut and giving feedback.
On a big budget film production, an EP also may secure marquee talent (aka A-list actors) to be part of the film. Film Producers report to the EP and the budget is approved by the Producers and the Executive Producer.
